Mera East - West - Sherpani Col to Makalu Trekking
Mera Peak is less difficult technically so it is popular to those people who has not long experience of climbing. Mr Roberts and Sen has first of all explored this peak in 20 May 1953. The trekking trail to Mera peak crosses dense forest (pines, hemlocks, birches and luxuriant rhododendrons). the trekking holds astonishing summit panorama including five of the world’s 8000m peaks: Kangchenjunga (8586m), Makalu (8475m), Lhotse (8501m), Everest (8848m) and Cho Oyo (8153m). Ascending on snow slopes up to summit.
After the summit of Mera Peak continue to Serapani col through Hunku valley and panch pokhari ( 5 lakes). Hongu and Hinku uninhabited valleys are grazing kharkas. East - West - Sherpani Col to Makalu Trekking is considered technically difficult. The trek Mera to Makalu Base Camp holds the views of Himalayas and hearty scenery of lakes Hunku lakes and Panch Pokhari lakes. Amphu Laptsa is to be passed technically to Chukkung Valley and Mingbo La to Nare glacier.
Trekking proceeds toward Makalu base camp 3-4 days walking over 6000m on snow and over crevasses to east col, west col and sherpani col.
Makalu base camp trekking covers the region of the largest valley in the world, the Arun Valley, Makalu Barun Conservation Area, other high mountains and lakes are the ornaments of this region. Arun and Barun valley is home of more than 650 species of birds and over 800 species butterflies. It is also shelter of the rare and endangered animal Panda.
Orchides and other flowers along a faint jungle trail, Swirly prayer flags at Shipton La, walking through this picturesque Sherpa village are the attraction of this region.
